Jennifer Runquist, Ph.D., R.N.

Jennifer Runquist is Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee College Of Nursing. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a M.S.N. and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Dr. Runquist studies how sleep deprivation affects depression in urban women after childbirth. Previous research includes qualitative and quantitative studies on fatigue and depression symptoms in lower-income urban women. In another study, she led an interdisciplinary effort to study maternal mental health in mothers who have young children with special needs. This effort included the development and implementation of a community-based depression screening program within an early intervention program. Dr. Runquist has special interests in postpartum nursing, maternal health, feminist theory, and nursing philosophy. She teaches maternal-infant health within the undergraduate nursing curriculum. Dr. Runquist's clinical experience includes obstetrics, postpartum, gynecologic, high-risk antenatal, newborn, neonatal intensive care, emergency nursing, and graduate nurse staff development. She resides in Milwaukee and enjoys road cycling, hiking, and reading science fiction.
